Astors Hotel is situated near to the exclusive Sloane Square area of London, on Ebury Street, a quiet tree filled street in the heart of Belgravia. Housed in an elegant Edwardian building, typical of the area, this four-star boutique hotel offers affordable rates in a very desirable location, close to sights, shops, attractions and nightlife.
Astors Hotel may be a bed and breakfast, but it is a cut above your average establishment, with twenty designer appointed bedrooms, featuring state of the art modern facilities. A lot of thought has gone into the rooms here and boldly patterned wall panels; art prints and dashes of colour have been used in an innovative way to subtly invigorate the space. Rooms come complete with en-suite bathrooms, direct-dial phones, a colour TV, a hospitality tray, hairdryers, air conditioning an in-room safe, and high-speed wireless Internet access. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and the hotel offers extra services such as wake-up calls for your convenience. A continental breakfast is offered in the room rate, with a very good selection for a low-cost hotel. The hotel doesn't cater for evening meals, but there are many wonderful restaurants to find nearby, so if you explore you will come across a hidden gem in no time. The Ebury Wine Bar & Restaurant is very popular with locals; Baker & Spice offers delectable baked goods, but at an eyebrow-raising price, and Oliveto is said to have some of the best pizza in London.
The hotel is in a superb location from which to view sights. Harrods department store, where you can buy almost anything within the bounds of legality; Harvey Nichols; the international designer stores of Sloane Street, the King's Road in Chelsea and Brompton Cross; art galleries, such as Proud for sleek rock and roll photography and the Saatchi Gallery for often controversial art; and bespoke antique shops are just a few minutes walk away. The hotel is also in a good position to visit world-famous Buckingham Palace, the Queen's London residence; the museums of South Kensington - Victoria & Albert, Natural History and the Science Museums; and the vast green space of Hyde Park, where you can enjoy boating, open-air concerts and horse riding.
The hotel is also located 5-minutes walk from Victoria coach station and only 7-minutes walk from Sloane Square tube station, from which you can easily access other areas of the city and Victoria train station, which takes you directly to Gatwick airport via the Gatwick Express.
Reasonably priced hotels in London can be a bit of a gamble, where you may open the door and find little more than a hovel, however, Astors Hotel is a sure bet with charming rooms, friendly staff and an excellent location. Some guests may expect a wider range of facilities for a four-star hotel, but for such a good room rate, you may be willing to overlook the lack of a restaurant or gym. Disabled guests should request a room on the ground floor as there is no lift in the hotel and some guests have found rooms a little small, although this is typical of London's antique buildings which have been converted. Rooms at the front of the hotel have attractive views of the surprisingly quiet Ebury Street area, so these are a good choice.
