Search for cheapest prices: Avni at No1
Located in a quiet side street off Gloucester Road, AVNI Serviced Apartments offer a home from home in an area that few Londoners can afford to live in. The borough of Kensington and Chelsea may have some eyebrow-raising real estate prices, but it doesn't mean that you can't enjoy it on a budget, just as long as you hold off on purchasing that gold-plated iPod in nearby Harrods Department Store. These reasonably priced, self-contained units are decorated to a high standard in a very chic contemporary style, so you will feel like one of the area's wealthy citizens from check-in until checkout.
The units offer more privacy and flexibility than a hotel, with the very handy option of cooking your own meals; using ingredients from the Tescos just a few minutes walk away. All of the units have a fully fitted kitchen, with the option of extra services such as home delivery; take away delivery or even a butler to serve your meals if you want to keep up with the Jones's. Housekeeping arrives daily and all units include wireless broadband internet, a newspaper delivered to the door, a direct-dial telephone, an HD-ready TV, ironing facilities, access to the gym in the building, an in-room safe, linens and towels, complimentary toiletries, a hair dryer and additional services such as a babysitter or chauffeur if needed.
As the apartments are self-catering, you have the option of cooking your own food or, you can treat yourself to a very lavish meal in one of Kensington's fabulous eateries. Such as Black and Blue for a modern take on diner food for a hip young set; spicy North Indian cuisine at The Bombay Brasserie; and gastro-pub fare at The Pembroke, which is near to The Troubadour, a historic gig venue, which has witnessed black panther rallies, Bob Dylan debuts and the legendary drinking habits of hell-raiser Oliver Reed throughout the years. So you can enjoy a pie and a pint then watch an up and coming band.
The surrounding Kensington area is one of London's most picturesque, with adorable Victorian mews cottages to the austere Victorian architecture of the area's most intriguing sites, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Royal Albert Hall, The Natural History Museum and Kensington Palace, the former residence of Princess Diana. The many museums of the area will expand your mind in ways you never imagined, with the Natural History Museum's interactive dinosaur models and The Science Museum's voyeuristic listening-post installation. However, London's rainy disposition means that if you do experience sunny weather, you won't want to spend your time inside, so as soon as the temperature starts to rise you can head over to Hyde Park, London's largest royal park where you can enjoy the sunshine by riding a horse down historic Rotten Row, traversing the Serpentine Lake on the solar-powered shuttle boat, renting a tennis court, or simply by just making some sandwiches and having a picnic on the lawns. Kensington offers the best of London whatever the age group and whatever the weather.
The hotel is also very well placed for transport, with good bus and tube links just a few minutes' walk from the hotel. Gloucester Road tube station is situated nearby, where you can catch the District, Circle and Piccadilly lines. From here you have direct links to Paddington Station (where the Heathrow Express terminates); Victoria Station (where the Gatwick Express terminates); King's Cross, St Pancras Station (where the Eurostar terminus is located); and many more areas of London. If you are driving to the hotel, it can be accessed from the main A4 road, via the M4 and M25; however, guests should note that the hotel is in the congestion charge zone. A reasonable car park choice is the NCP just a few minutes walk away in Warwick Road.
These apartments are stylish, well located and very affordable, so you couldn't ask for more. As with many Victorian conversions, some apartments may be a bit petite, but overall AVNI Apartments are a good size for London. Apartments on the higher floors at the back of the building tend to be quieter, so opt for one of those if you are a light sleeper.
