Bakers Hotel is a low-cost bed and breakfast situated in the Victoria district of central London. The hotel is located in a quiet road close to transport links and some of London's best-loved sights and attractions. Housed in one of the many elegant, white town houses, which line the streets of the surrounding area, you can experience this picturesque part of the city and still have enough money to enjoy the nearby restaurants, bars and museums.
The hotel offers guest rooms in Single to Family sizes. Rooms are basic but serviceable, decorated in a simple style, but offering comfort, cleanliness and convenience. Rooms include colour TVs, central heating, a washbasin with hot and cold water and a simple but serviceable continental breakfast. Shared, modern bathrooms are located on each floor and the hotel has a cheerful breakfast room and lounge for guests to relax in. Staff are friendly and welcoming and eager to help you navigate the city.
The hotel enjoys an excellent location, from which you can easily walk to London's landmarks. Westminster Cathedral, a stunning neo-Byzantine building is just a 12 minute walk away and St John Smith's Square, an 18th century church, which is used for gigs, comedy nights, theatre and art exhibitions, is also a short walk away. If you are a theatre aficionado, this hotel will be perfect for you, as you will find some of the best playhouses nearby. The Apollo Victoria, Victoria Palace, Royal Court, Pigalle, Playhouse, White Bear and Criterion Theatres can all be easily reached for a nighttime jaunt, where you can watch everything from melodrama to mega musicals and comedy to cabaret. Cadogan Hall offers classical music for those with more traditional tastes and the sophisticated Boisdale Jazz and Cigar Club offers live music and a smoking terrace. The Tate Britain Gallery is located in Pimlico, just a short walk away, and Art Sensus offers a more contemporary selection of paintings and photography.
Buckingham Palace, home of Queen Elizabeth II, is a 25-minute walk north of the hotel for tours of the state rooms and the Changing of the Guard ceremony, and Sloane Square and the King's Road are a 20-minute walk west of Bakers Hotel for exclusive shopping and The Saatchi Gallery. The hotel is very well located for transport, with major transport hub, Victoria Station, just a 10-minute walk away. From Victoria you can catch the Gatwick Express Train to the airport in about 25 minutes and the Victoria, District and Circle lines will allow you to explore the rest of this fascinating city with ease.
Bakers Hotel is admittedly cheap and cheerful and offers few luxuries beyond the ornate facade. It does offer comfort and convenience for a reasonable price, but there are many low-cost hotels in this area, particularly along neighbouring Belgrave Road, where you can find en-suite facilities and a bit more style for not much more money, so it may be worth shopping around before you book. If you do choose to stay here, try to avoid the basement rooms, which can be a bit dark and dingy and if a solo traveller, it may be worth booking a double or twin room for the extra space it allows.
