The Best Western Palm Hotel is an exceedingly affordable and reliably comfortable three-star chain hotel in Hendon, north London, in a quiet, green, largely residential district. Situated in between Brent Cross and Finchley, the hotel has the advantage of the huge Brent Cross retail park to the north and the village-y atmosphere of Finchley and Hampstead to the south, alongside transport links into the centre of London.
The hotel has 73 newly refurbished suites decorated in a tasteful, modern style with clean lines, a calming colour palette, en-suite bathrooms and a dash of Best Western colour here and there to brighten up the space. Rooms are well appointed, with a wide range of amenities to ensure you have all you need during your stay. These include a hairdryer, complimentary toiletries, 24-hour room service, personal safe, direct dial phone, tropical showers, tea and coffee making facilities, a wide-screen LCD TV with sport channels, luxury well-sprung beds, a work desk and Wi-Fi and high speed internet access. The hotel also offers laundry and concierge services and a 24-hour reception and bar, where you can relax with a drink on arrival or before hitting the nearby nightlife.
The hotel doesn't cater for evening meals, but nearby Golders Green has some fantastic kosher restaurants and La Fiesta Argentinean steakhouse, and there are some chain restaurants such as Carluccio's and Wagamama just 10 minutes walk away.
The hotel is in a very convenient location for local sights. A 15-minute walk north will bring you to Brent Cross tube station and shopping centre, which has been somewhat, eclipsed by Westfield in the south, but still offers a good range of retail outlets. Wembley Arena and Stadium are just a 15 minute drive away or a slightly longer bus ride, where you can see large scale concerts and sporting events, including the FA Cup and Champions League games. Lords Cricket Ground is a short drive south of the hotel, where you can watch the quintessentially British game with a very large crowd. Hampstead is a 25-minute walk from the hotel, where you can enjoy a picnic on the heath, panoramic views of London from Parliament Hill or the grandeur of Kenwood House. Hampstead has a fantastic range of unique shops and restaurants to enjoy as well.
The hotel is also close to Arsenal's Emirates Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur's White Hart Lane home, making this an ideal place for football fans of all ilk to stay. Alexandra Palace is also a short drive or bus ride away, where you can enjoy funfairs, gigs and resident DJs in one of London's least regal palaces. The hotel is ideally situated for transport, with Brent Cross and Golders Green tube stations each 10 minutes walk away, from which you can catch the Northern Line to King's Cross St Pancras Station for the Eurostar terminus; Leicester Square, for London Theatres and cinema premieres; Charing Cross, for Trafalgar Square; and Waterloo for South Bank exhibition centres and travel to London suburbs. The hotel is also outside of the Congestion Charge zone, just a five-minute drive from the North Circular road and the M1.
Considering the hotel is located in such a seemingly remote location in the north of London, it is surprisingly easy to access nearby sights and attractions, although it must be said that the hotel's location on a main highway makes it more suitable for those driving into the city. The Best Western is also very reasonable and benefits from friendly, professional staff and comfortable, spacious rooms. The rooms at the back of the hotel tend to be quieter and if you are attending a large event at or near the hotel be sure to check the parking there beforehand, to ensure you get a space.
