Black Lion

Found in North London’s young and trendy Kilburn, The Black Lion Guesthouse is a stunning period building which combines a bar, restaurant, exciting venue and upstairs guesthouse. Set in a Grade II listed building, the interior is nothing short of decadent. The area is extremely close to the busy and exciting areas of Camden Town and Chalk Farm and is also close to Hampstead Heath, one of London’s most relaxing green spaces, with its hills and forests, wide plains and even its swimming reservoir! Transport links are very good to Kilburn, which is connected to the city via the overground, as is also a stone’s throw away from the shopping areas and attractions such as Baker Street, Regent’s Park and Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square and Soho. Here, you can sample an authentic stay in the city away from the tourist hotels and see everything London has to offer at the same time.

All of the Black Lion’s room have recently undergone a refurbishment and are now bright and decorated in a thoroughly contemporary style. All but one have en-suite bathrooms and all rooms have full central heating, flat screen television and complimentary tea and coffee facilities. The rooms also have free Wi-Fi, a high-speed Internet connection point and come with Freeview as standard. The Black Lion’s main objective is to great luxurious accommodation in a stunning building at a truly affordable price. What better way to spend a holiday in this most exciting European city!

The food in the Black Lion really is something to write home about. A full English breakfast is served daily in the restaurant, and the gastropub is a favourite among locals in the area who want to taste hearty, chunky home-cooked food prepared fresh everyday, using locally sourced ingredients. Popular dishes include the sirloin steak a whole ocean of seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes, such as the butternut squash risotto, and the pan-fried whole sea bass with grilled asparagus and new potatoes. The restaurants interior is a work of art – red leather comfy chair and sofa that sit underneath scrolled ornate wall and big chandeliers hanging from the ceilings and decorated in a vivid gold colour throughout. You wouldn’t find this sort of gem in Mayfair or Park Lane!  The bar area is also very spacious, and service fast. There is also a dedicated dining area for those wanting to soak up the scene in a little more privacy. All of this might make the Black Lion sound a little pretentious, but a stay here will show you not only how popular it is among locals, but how that laid-back, warm, relaxed and friendly atmosphere extends itself to not only the staff, but the guests as well. This really is one of the coolest spots in North London.

Access to The Black Lion couldn’t be easier. It is connected via the underground to both Kilburn Station (Jubilee line) and Kilburn Park station (Bakerloo line) both stations are under a 5-minute walk from the hotel. The Black Lion is located on the widely used Kilburn High Street, which is heavily signposted and extremely easy to find when alighting. There are also a number of bus stops, which connect to central London and stop right outside the door of the Black Lion. Visitors can take the number 189 or 16 bus from the guesthouse and be at Madame Tussauds or Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace within fifteen minutes. Both of these busses run 24 hours a day. Also, the underground connections mean that many key attraction are to be found along the way such as the West End, the Houses of Parliament, Regents Park, Bakers Street, London Zoo and Piccadilly.
