The Bloomsbury Hotel

LH Comment: The Bloomsbury Hotel gets fantastic guest reviews and "ticks" every requirement. The location is also superb with many of Londons attractions being walking distance away. Within ten minutes on foot you have Theatreland, Covent Garden and Soho whilst the shopping area of Oxford Street is on your doorstep.

All in all a top choice of central London hotel

About the Bloomsbury Hotel, London

In a neo-Georgian listed building designed by British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, this 4-Star classic hotel is in the heart of Bloomsbury, made famous by the artistic and intellectual Bloomsbury Group, including Virginia Woolf, John Maynard Keynes, E. M. Forster and Lytton Strachey. The Dominion Theatre, home of hit musical We Will Rock You, is a few hundred feet from the doors of the hotel. The British Museum is 0.2 miles away and Covent Garden, with the Royal Opera House, cafes, restaurants and markets, is 0.4 miles away. Other nearby attractions are the Cartoon Museum (0.2 miles), the Shaftesbury Theatre (0.2 miles), the Cochrane Theatre (0.4 miles), Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design (0.5 miles), Sir John Soane's Museum and Lincoln’s Inn Fields (0.6 miles). Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road, for Central London shopping, are a short walk away. There are several gyms and spas near the hotel as well as restaurants, bars and cafes.

The Bloomsbury Hotel has 115 superior rooms, 26 deluxe rooms and 12 studio suites with complimentary wireless internet access in all bedrooms. Beds have crisp white sheets and duck down duvets. The superior rooms blend contemporary style with original detail. Amenities include queen-size beds, power showers, climate control, voice mail, in-room safe, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, Aromatherapy Associates bathroom products and 24-hour sports and news TV channels. The deluxe rooms offer all those comforts plus an evening newspaper, a towelling robe, mineral water and Nespresso coffee maker. Studio suites also have a king-size bed and a spacious lounge area, a separate shower and bath.

The facilities at The Bloomsbury Hotel  are intended to meet the needs of business and leisure travellers. They include complimentary wireless internet access in bedrooms, public areas and meeting rooms. The restaurant and bar take their name from the hotel’s designer, Sir Edwin Lutyens, and offer classic British food. There is the Landseer British Kitchen, the Landseer Bar and a lounge. Other facilities at the hotel include laundry/dry cleaning, concierge, 24-hour room service, currency exchange and conference and banqueting facilities.

There are seven dedicated meeting rooms. Period paintings and Lutyens-inspired décor lend the hotel conference centre a distinguished air. Recent restored, the conference rooms have the modern technology required for a successful business event.

One of the features of the hotel is the Seamus Heaney Library, named after the highly respected Irish poet, writer and lecturer who has been visiting the hotel for nearly ten years. It was unveiled by the man himself in July 2011. Hundreds of books line the walls, many from the 1930s onwards, and the hotel is updating the library with more classics from the 20th century. The collection will be further expanded courtesy of Seamus who is donating some of his translations, alongside a selection of his books including Death of a Naturalist and Open Ground. The Bloomsbury Hotel is a sponsor of the Royal Society of Literature. The hotel also hosts fashion events for London Fashion Week.

Bloomsbury Hotel is just 500ft from Tottenham Court Road Underground station, on the Central and Northern (Charing Cross branch) lines. Holborn tube station (0.4 miles away) is on the Central Line and Piccadilly Line, which has a direct service to London Heathrow Airport. The nearest mainline railway station is City Thameslink (1.3 miles). You can catch a train directly from Gatwick Airport to City Thameslink. Stations in Central London are in Travelcard Zone 1. The area is inside the London Congestion Charge Zone for cars. A public car park is adjacent to the hotel.
