If you need a central location ideal for sightseeing and shopping, this stylish hotel provides all you need. The Brompton Hotel is situated on the Old Brompton Road, a thoroughfare rife with fame and infamy as it was once home to Princess Diana before her engagement and it was also the notorious stalking ground of no less than three serial killers! Anyone staying in this hotel can be reassured that it is indeed a safe and affluent area though and has since become known for its up market shops, five-star hotels and Christie's auction house, rather than such grisly pursuits.
The Brompton Hotel offers tastefully decorated rooms with a calming colour palette and high-quality fittings, which complement the Victorian and Edwardian surrounds. All bedrooms are ensuite and come with a good selection of amenities such as a direct-dial phone with voicemail, a hair dryer, ironing facilities, tea and coffee making facilities, an electronic document safe, and complimentary wireless internet access, which is a real plus, as some of the five-star establishments nearby charge for this useful service.
Another great advantage is that the rooms contain a microwave and refrigerator, so if you want to save some money, or just fancy kicking back and watching some TV you can grab supplies from the nearby Waitrose or Tesco Express and make your own dinner.
On the other hand if you want to sample the gastronomic delights of this most exclusive district, you can try delicious Spanish food at Cambio De Tercio; sample Britain's favourite dish, curry, at the Star of India Restaurant, or enjoy a cheap and cheerful burger at Gourmet Burger Kitchen.
Next door to the hotel is a mouth-watering Argentinean steak house, called El Gaucho and the friendly local drinking establishment Janet's Bar, where, as a guest, you receive discounts on food and beverages.

The hotel also offers a laundry service, a 24-hour reception, a continental breakfast and a concierge service to help you plan your stay, whether you want to take in a West End show, see London by bus, or hire a chauffeur to take you round, the hotel will be happy to help.
The hotel's location may not be ideal for your credit card, but it will cater for all your shopping needs in the world-famous boutiques and department stores of Kensington, from Harrods and Harvey Nichols to the Whole Foods supermarket and quirky shops such as Little Stinkies toy store. Nearby, you will also find the Royal Albert Hall, the Victoria & Albert Museum, Hyde Park, The Science Museum, The Natural History Museum, Kensington Palace and Gardens, the exquisite Chelsea and Knightsbridge areas and many more sights and attractions.
The hotel is also very well placed for transport, with good bus and tube links just a few minutes' walk from the hotel. Gloucester Road tube station is situated nearby, where you can catch the District, Circle and Piccadilly lines. From here you have direct links to Paddington Station (where the Heathrow Express terminates); Victoria Station (where the Gatwick Express terminates); King's Cross, St Pancras Station (where the Eurostar terminus is located); and many more areas of London. If you are driving to the hotel, it can be accessed from the main A4 road, via the M4 and M25; however, guests should note that the hotel is in the congestion charge zone. A reasonable car park choice is the NCP just a few minutes walk away in Warwick Road.
Some problems have been reported by guests in this hotel, with some broken fittings and some wear and tear in rooms, but despite this, rooms are clean and having a microwave and fridge handy makes a real difference if you are travelling on a budget. Guests with mobility difficulties, or guests with heavy suitcases should be aware that there is no lift, so be prepared to lug your case or request a ground floor room. This may be tricky for light sleepers though, as the bar is on the ground floor and this makes it noisy. For the combination of price and location this is not a bad choice, but there are some much more elegant budget establishments in Kensington so it's worth shopping around first.
