The Churchill is a five-star business hotel located on the gardens of Portman Square in London W1, just 100 yards north of Marble Arch and Park Lane. The hotel is ideally situated in London's West End, close to many of London's main attractions and exclusive shopping areas, plus the Hyatt Regency London. The hotel's central location doesn't mean that its rooms are filled with traffic noise or grim urban views, as the windows look out on to the leafy streets of the picturesque Marylebone district or the hotel' interior courtyard, making this a peaceful haven to escape the bustling city outside.
The Churchill Hotel has 445 guest rooms and suites, all offering extreme comfort in tranquil, elegant surroundings. Decorated in an elegant minimalist style, with white and cream fixtures for an airy feel, all the rooms offer a bathroom, satellite television with pay movies, iPhone docking station, bathrobes, morning paper (on request), work desk area with broadband Internet access (for a fee), minibar and luxurious bathroom amenities.
The hotel contains The Montague Restaurant, which has been awarded two AA Rosettes. Here guests can enjoy views of Portman Square, whilst eating breakfast, lunch or an exquisite and sophisticated dinner, with a refined menu selection. If you don’t fancy something quite so rich, you can partake in a genteel British custom and order afternoon tea, or you can visit The Chef's table for an up-close and personal view of how the hotel chefs create the artistic dishes on the menu, so you might pick up a few tips! If you prefer your theatre outside the hotel, you can visit Locanda Locatelli for a tasty and authentic Italian meal before hitting the town.
The Churchill bar celebrates one of Britain's greatest characters, with memorabilia of the titular Prime Minister on the walls, so you can relax in one of the leather chairs with a glass of Johnnie Walker (Churchill's favourite tipple!) and toast the great man. The hotel also offers guests a currency exchange, concierge service, laundry and dry cleaning a valet, theatre desk and even an indoor tennis court.
The Churchill hotel is perfectly placed for easy access to the City, but this is also a great location for accessing the upmarket shops of Mayfair and Bond Street, including Fortnum & Mason, Savile Row tailors and a host of high-quality brand names in some of the most expensive retail locations in the world. If you want to indulge in some retail therapy without breaking the bank, Oxford Street has over 300 shops catering to all budgets, from the Primark superstore for cheap and cheerful chic to Selfridges high end fashion and home wares; you will find a stylish souvenir to take home. From the hotel you can walk to Buckingham Palace to see where the Queen calls home when she's in London, or watch the Changing of the Guards ceremony. Or you can visit the less grand but still very noble Marlborough House, just a few minutes' walk away. If the weather is sunny, you are just a few minutes' walk from London's largest green space, Hyde Park, where you can ride horses, ride a solar-powered shuttle boat, rent a tennis court, visit the Serpentine Gallery, or simply go for a stroll in the stunning gardens. If you are travelling with kids, they will be thrilled at the Piccadilly Trocadero arcade, Hamleys toy store and Madame Tussaud's waxwork museum. Or if you would prefer a romantic evening out, London theatres and a wide selection of restaurants and bars are all within strolling home distance.
The Churchill hotel is perfectly placed for easy access to the City. The hotel is also well located for transport; just a few minutes walk away from Marble Arch tube. Marble Arch services the Central line, which will swiftly carry you to London's other sights and attractions. The station is just a few stops from Oxford Circus tube, which services the Victoria, Bakerloo and Central lines and has direct links with Paddington Station (where the Heathrow Express Train terminates); Victoria Station (where the Gatwick Express Train terminates); and King's Cross St Pancras Station (where the Eurostar terminates). If you are driving to the hotel, it is situated just off the main A4 road, which can be accessed via the M4 and M25; however, guests should note that the hotel is in the congestion charge zone. To park overnight, your best option is the NCP Car Park at Great Cumberland Place; just a few minutes walk away from the hotel.
Like it's namesake, the hotel is a good example of classic British class. With a fantastic location and a very peaceful area, which is a rarity in central London, this hotel is a good choice for business and leisure travellers. If you are staying at this hotel, rooms over Portland Square seem to offer favourable views, so it is best to request this on booking.
