Clapham Guest House is a rather elegant low-cost hotel situated on the Wandsworth Road in the Clapham area of London, south of the River Thames. The hotel is housed in an attractive guesthouse in a quiet, largely residential district, where you will find a more laid back atmosphere than in the centre of London. The area is very popular with 'yummy mummies' and young professionals and there are some beautiful green spaces close to the hotel, with Clapham Common to the south and Battersea Park to the north.
Clapham Guest House have sensibly opted for a chic, simple, minimalist style of decor, where clean lines and a neutral colour palette can make a room look much more upmarket than the star rating might suggest. Rooms range from Singles to Family Rooms and guests can choose to pay a little more for an en-suite, or opt for shared bathrooms. Rooms have comfortable beds, smart walnut wood furnishings and a range of amenities including a hairdryer, fan, central heating, colour TV with freeview channels, radio and a work desk, the hotel also has a Wi-Fi connection. Having someone with local knowledge will definitely come in handy as Clapham has plenty of sights and attractions. Clapham Common is great for a quiet picnic or afternoon stroll, the common contains a pond for fishing and model boating and there is a paddling pool for kids. Battersea Park is home to Battersea Children's Zoo, where you can meet some adorable émigrés such as otters, flamingoes and monkeys. In the summer, the park also hosts a funfair with rides and food stands. Clapham Common is also home to a great range of unique shops and cafes.
Just a 10-minute walk away you will find the Clapham Junction area, which is a busy centre due to the huge train station there, from which you can reach Waterloo and Victoria Stations in about 10 minutes, for connections to all quarters of London and the Gatwick Express Train. Clapham Junction has a great range of shops and restaurants to suit an affluent clientele. Jamie's Kitchen shop, Cath Kidston and some cute vintage shops are scattered along the high street and Northcote Road, where you will find a fantastic range o restaurants and brunch spots, such as Byron Burger, Buono Sera and Lola Roja for a range of tastes, although visitors should note that the brunch spots fill to the brim with 'yummy mummies' and prams on the weekends.
The hotel is also well placed to view central sights, crossing the Albert Bridge, you will find yourself in the upmarket Chelsea district, where you will find the shops of the King's Road, and from here you can easily reach Buckingham Palace, Victoria's theatres, such as the Apollo Victoria and Victoria Palace, which both show mega musicals. From Chelsea you are also very close to South Kensington, where you will find the Victoria & Albert, Science and Natural History museums, Harrods department store and the Royal Albert Hall.
Transport is good from the hotel, with Clapham North tube station just a ten-minute walk away, Clapham North services the Northern line, from which you can be within central London in five minutes and you can reach King's Cross St Pancras Station for the Eurostar terminus in fifteen minutes.
Clapham Guest House is a great budget choice for your London stay, with glowing reports from previous guests for the central location, superb service and comfortable rooms, so definitely one to consider if you don't want to be immersed in the noise and crowds of central London but still want to be close enough to see the sights.
