"A very central location and good guest reviews"
Located just behind the British Museum, The Clarendon Hotel, London is a small, four-star hotel in Bloomsbury. Its location is ideal, and, although the facilities might not be all one would expect of a five star establishment, it offers good accommodation in the heart of the city for a not unreasonable price.
The Clarendon is an a Georgian townhouse, overlooking the back of the British Library in a quiet, leafy street. There is a concierge, 24-hour porter, 24-hour reception and 24-hour room service.
The rooms have safes, irons, hypoallergenic pillows and duvets, tea and coffee-making facilities as well as coming with as complimentary newspaper.
High chairs and cots are available upon request, and there is a bar area in reception.
Each room has a satellite TV as well as a hifi. There is high-speed internet throughout, and check-in is after 14:00
Whilst it is in a great location, the Clarendon would make no claims to being a luxury hotel, but rather a small, boutique hotel finished to a high standard.
Its location and the value it offers can make it an irresistible choice for those looking for a compromise somewhere between extreme value and extreme luxury with all the advantages of a central London location.
Whereas many hotels in the area suffer from late-night noise, the reverse is true of the Clarendon. Its leafy Bloomsbury location mean that more guests complain of being disturbed by birds than revellers in the early morning.
Sirens and traffic noise which can be so prevalent nearby do not seem to be a problem at The Clarendon.
Bloomsbury is one of Londons most famous districts. In the early twentieth century a group of writers, artists and intellectuals (including Virginia Woolf and John Maynard Keynes) gathered and lived here, taking advantage of its proximity to Londons libraries and museums, but also of its leafy squares and spacious townhouses to carve out a literary suburbia in the heart of the city. The hotel backs on to the British Library, and when staying there you are ideally situated for much of what London has to offer its guests. From Bloomsbury you are within easy walking distance of Oxford Street, Bond Street, Mayfair and the major shopping centres of central London. You are also just a reasonable stroll from many of Londons most desirable attractions and sights: Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, and, if you cross the river, the London Eye. The nearest tube stations are Russell Square, Holborn, and Tottenham Court Road.
