Situated in elegant Bayswater, the Elysee hotel is just north of London’s Hyde Park and has excellent transport links. It is 0.2 miles from Lancaster Gate station, on the Central Line, and 0.3 miles from Paddington station. Paddington mainline railway station has frequent, fast trains to and from Heathrow Airport. Trains from Wales and western England also terminate there.
This traditional hotel faces Hyde Park and is situated on Craven Terrace, home of the Mitre Pub which appeared in two Woody Allen movies.
Elysee Hotel is good base from which to explore London. Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are just 0.1 miles from the hotel.
Within Hyde Park lies the Serpentine lake, the Serpentine Gallery and riding stables. This large green space often hosts music events and is where the 2012 Olympics Triathlon and Open Water Swimming contests will be held.
The Royal Albert Hall is a mile away, across Kensington Gardens. Marble Arch and the start of Oxford Street are just under a mile to the east. Queensway, a cosmopolitan street famous for restaurants offering food from all over the world, lies half a mile to the west.
On Queensway you will also find Whiteleys shopping centre, with a cinema, a bowling alley and other entertainment as well as retail units. Trendy Notting Hill, which hosts the Notting Hill Carnival every summer, lies just under a mile to the west of the hotel.
Portobello Road, famous for antiques and historic arcades, is about the same distance. Imperial College, St Mary’s Campus, lies half a mile to the north of the hotel and houses the Alexander Fleming Museum. London’s West End is easily reached by tube, bus or taxi. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel are a newsagent, a launderette, an Italian restaurant and an antique shop.
In a traditional red brick building, the Elysee Hotel is privately owned and has recently been renovated. It has 55 well-appointed guest rooms and aims to offer value for money accommodation with good service and a friendly atmosphere.
All the bedrooms have contemporary décor and modern facilities. Single, double and twin rooms are available, as well as triple and quad rooms for families and small groups. They each come with flat screen TV, satellite channels, air conditioning, high-speed internet Wi-Fi, in-room safe, kettle for making tea and coffee, private en-suite bathroom, hairdryer, direct dial telephone and electronic security.
The hotel has 24-hour reception, a lift, fax/photocopier facilities, internet access, luggage storage, air conditioning, dry cleaning, safety deposit facilities. The breakfast room is bright, cheerful and attractively decorated. It offers Continental breakfast and full English breakfast at an extra charge.
The hotel does not have its own car park, but there is charged parking on streets nearby.
Paddington tube station serves the District, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Bakerloo Underground Lines. From Gatwick Airport you can catch a fast train to Victoria station, then take the Circle Line.
If you arrive in London on the Eurostar at St Pancras International you can also connect with the Circle Line. Luton, Stansted and London City airports are all within 45 minutes of Central London by train. Stations in the area are in Travelcard Zone 1.
If you are driving, the A40 is a short drive away and leads to the M25 London Orbital motorway. The M40 and M4 motorways are also easy to reach. The area is outside the London Congestion Charge Zone for cars.
The Elysee Hotel does tend to attract some poor reviews from the more experienced travellers who stay there. In particular regarding cleanliness and hygene.
In our opinion we would advise you to view this hotel as pretty much a last resort choice. There are better in the same area.
