Euston station, or London Euston, is one of the citys major rail termini, and it connects London with the West Midlands, the North West, North Wales and parts of Scotland. It is also connected to Euston tube station, and the Euston Square Station. It is in Travelcard Zone 1.

Although todays building does not reflect it, as it has been seriously redeveloped since it first opened, Euston was Londons first intercity rail terminals. It opened in 1837 as the hub of the London and Birmingham Railway. It was designed by classical architect Philip Hardwick, with a train shed that was designed by Charles Fox.

There was also a 72 foot tall Doric facade at the entrance to the station which is the largest that has ever been built. It became known as the Euston Arch, but was demolished in 1961 when the British Transport Commission was trying to update Euston station and electrify its rails. The Conservative Prime Minister of the time, Harold Macmillan, refused to consider any of the proposals to preserve the arch. Frank Valori, who had conducted the demolition himself, on behalf of Leonard Fairclough, had offered to move the arch at his own expense to an alternative site where he would store the stones until a place could be found to re-erect it. This offer was declined. The stone from the arch was used to line the bed of the River Lea at the Prescott Channel, where it lies to this day. There are currently plans to build a replacement arch on the site at Euston in the future.

Euston Stations new building opened in 1968 with a modernist building to represent the electrification of the West Coast mainline. The complex also consists of a bus terminal and low-rise office blocks on two sides. There is a range of catering units, shops, and a large ticket hall. The space for the ticket hall was garnered by moving luggage and parcel space above the train shed. This means that the platforms lack the natural light of the Victorian stations in other parts of London, but that the main concourse can be much more open. The building itself has been the subject of much controversy, with Richard Morrison writing in The Times saying “It gives the impression of having been scribbled on the back of a soiled paper bag by a thuggish android with a grudge against humanity and a vampiric loathing of sunlight.”

The station has 217 parking spaces, and the car park is open 24 hours a day. To reach the station by underground, it is easiest to come to Euston tube station, which is on the Northern and Victoria lines. There is storage available for bicycles as well as a taxi rank underneath the station.

There are accessible ticket machines for disabled patrons, as well as ramps for train access and an accessible taxi rank. There is step free access to the whole station, but there is not wheelchair access to the underground car park. Customer services is open from Monday to Sunday 07:00 to 23:00, and left luggage is available at the station.
