Foster Lane EC2 begins at the western end of Cheapside and runs until Noble Street. Saint Pauls Cathedral is just around the corner from Foster Lane. Despite being one of the smaller streets in south-west corner of EC2, Foster Lane hosts a few distinguished buildings including Goldsmiths Hall and St. Vedas-alias-Foster Church. The name Foster Lane derives from the above mentioned church.
Goldsmiths Hall is located at the junction of Foster Lane and Gresham Street and has been heralded as one of Londons hidden treasures. The site was used by the Goldsmiths Company, one of Londons historic livery companies. There have been three Goldsmiths Halls built and the present renaissance style Hall opened its doors in 1835. Today the hall has retained much of its grandeur and was recently refurbished. The Goldsmiths Company backs the crafts of jewellery, goldsmithing and silversmithing and often has fairs and exhibitions inside Goldsmiths Hall.
St. Vedast-alias-Foster Church is on the eastern side of Foster Lane and just around the corner from Cheapside. Sir Christopher Wren built the elegant narrow stone church and steeple in 1673. Also of interest is the cloister of St. Vedast-alias-Foster between the church and rectory which was excavated to find Roman tessellated pavement.
Foster Lane is full of buildings used for offices. There are some restaurants on the pavement level such as Grapevine at 6 Foster Lane which serves a selection of Italian dishes made from the finest ingredients.
Cheapside is a busting combination of offices, shops and restaurants. Being central to the financial services district, lunch time cafes such as Eat, Pret a Manger and Starbucks are all on Cheapside.

The Cathedral has been the venue for many high profile services including Winston Churchills funeral and Diana Spencer and Prince Charless wedding. St Pauls Cathedral was also one of the key buildings in the hit film Mary Poppins.
By heading up north from Foster Lane, you reach London Wall. London Wall, which marks the line of the wall built by the Romans around Londinium, is now a street typical to the EC2 area with offices and small retail outlets. The Museum of London is also located on London Wall. The main entrance to the museum is found just of the raised walk ways that are a key feature of the Barbican.
