Hotel Olympia is a low-cost hotel in the peaceful residential district of Earls Court. Located in the heart of southwest London, the hotel is very convenient for local attractions and sights and is a popular place for tourists to stay. Housed in an elegant 19th century town house, typical of the area, this is a good accommodation option for business and leisure travellers who want to stick to a modest budget.
Whilst the hotel's facade might evoke old-world London, the interior is clean, modern and colourful, with cheerful, brightly painted walls and tasteful, matching furnishings in rooms. The hotel's 25 guest rooms are a little cosy, although this is common when staying in a town house conversion, but sizes range from Single to Quad and all rooms come with a good range of amenities, including a private bathroom, colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities, a telephone and hairdryer; all the basics you will need for your trip.
The hotel also has a 24-hour reception, security cameras to ensure guest safety, a wake-up call service, free Wi-Fi in the lobby area and fax and photocopying facilities if needed. The room rate includes a continental breakfast, comprising of a simple but fresh buffet, but if you want something a bit heartier, and a more reliable Wi-Fi connection, it's advised to head to the Starbucks cafe nearby. The hotel doesn't cater for evening meals, but there are plenty of culinary delights to be had in the surrounding area. Chain restaurants such as Pizza Express and Zizzis offer a cheap but satisfying menu, gastropubs such as The Pembroke and The Abingdon offer a chance to mingle with the locals and sample some unique British ales, and upmarket restaurants such as Balans have divine menus, which are worth splashing out on.
The hotel is well located for exploring the sights of London, with so much to do nearby you will need to book another trip to fit it all in. Earls Court exhibition centre is within walking distance and Olympia exhibition centre is just one tube stop away, making the hotel ideal for those attending events or exhibiting. The centres have some very popular events such as Crufts Dog Show, The Royal Tournament and The London International Horse Show, so it's worth checking to see if an event is on before you arrive. A 20-minute walk, or a short bus/tube ride from the hotel, lays South Kensington and Knightsbridge, two of London's most affluent and picturesque areas. Knightsbridge is home to Harrods and Harvey Nichols department stores, shopping empires, which have some truly unique items for sale, and there are also some high street shops nearby for those who have to be frugal. South Kensington is home to London museums such as The Victoria & Albert, Science and Natural History, all of which have interactive exhibits and a fascinating archive of artifacts, many of which were collected during the Great Exhibition, which was held in nearby Hyde Park in a huge glass hall. The structure no longer exists in Hyde Park, but it is home to some activities you may not expect from a city, like boating and horse riding, here you will also find The Serpentine Gallery, where artists such as Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol have been exhibited.
Transport links from The Olympia Hotel are also good, with Earls Court tube station just a few minutes walk away, from which you can travel on the District and Piccadilly lines. The District line will take you to Paddington Station for the Heathrow Express train, or you can access Heathrow directly via the Piccadilly line. You also have a direct link to King's Cross St Pancras Station where the Eurostar terminus is located and Victoria Station, where you can catch the Gatwick Express Train.
The Olympia Hotel may need some refurbishment, as guests have reported broken facilities and slightly worn furnishings, but it is true that you get what you pay for and the price is very competitive for such a good London location. To make sure you have the most comfortable stay here, request a room away from the road as these can get noisy in the night.
