The staff at the hotel are friendly and welcoming, and happy to share their extensive local knowledge. The hotel also offers a range of extra services, including a business centre, concierge and laundry/valet service if needed. The hotel doesn't have a fitness centre on site, but guests have complimentary access to the LA fitness centre and spa close by. The hotel also includes the Square Mile Kitchen & Lounge restaurant, which serves a delectable menu of British favourites, made with local produce and given a distinctive modern twist. Guests can also unwind in the cocktail lounge and choose from an extensive drinks menu.
The hotel is very convenient for business guests, with London's major finance centres close by, including One America Square, Lloyds Chambers and the Royal Bank of Scotland, and Canary Wharf easily reached by the Tower Gateway stop of the Docklands Light railway, just a 7 minute walk from the hotel.
There are plenty of London's most historic sights nearby, including the Tower of London, an austere building filled with eye-catching Beefeater guards and ravens, which was once the prison for traitors to the throne, where Sir Walter Raleigh and Sir Thomas More were both held in the 16th century.
The London Monument is just a 15 minute walk away, which is dedicated to the victims of the Great Fire of London and for a slightly less accurate, but more enthralling view of London history, the London Dungeon is located close by at London Bridge.
Those who want to indulge in some retail therapy can visit the designer shops at the Royal Exchange mall and browse the shopping centres of Canary Wharf, or just 20 minutes from the hotel, you can peruse London's gastronomic delights at Borough Market in Southwark. St Paul's Cathedral, Christopher Wren's masterpiece of engineering and architecture, is a 20-minute walk away, or a few tube stops via Tower Hill tube station.
The hotel has excellent transport links, with Aldgate tube station just two minutes from the hotel. From here you can catch the Metropolitan or Circle line direct to King's Cross St Pancras Station for the Eurostar terminal; or Paddington Station for the Heathrow Express Train to the airport.
From Tower Hill tube station, juts a ten minute walk away, you can catch the District Line to Sloane Square for Harrods and the King's Road shops; South Kensington, for the Victoria & Albert, Science and Natural History museums and the Royal Albert Hall; and Earls Court for the exhibition centre. Excel exhibition centre is also easily reached via the DLR.
In a district where many hotels cater to business guests and thus have tasteful but slightly uninspiring decor, the Hotel Indigo is a breath of fresh air, offering an entirely original place to stay. Excellent transport links make the hotel extremely convenient for all kinds of visitors and the hotel's location means guests can enjoy the best of the old and new city. All rooms in the hotel are double glazed and tend to be quiet, and all are exquisitely outfitted, although rooms near the top of the hotel offer better views and it is highly recommended to upgrade to a Deluxe room if you can afford the extra spend.
