Search for cheap hotels near Legal & General London Office
Legal & General, the British multi-national finance company, occupies a rather handsome modern building in Moorgate in the City of London, London's premier business and finance district alongside Canary Wharf. Designed by David Walker Architects, the building resembles a mosaic in glass, a tranquil urban space, close to London Wall, which gives no indication of the flurry of moneymaking activity going on inside.
Legal & General deal predominantly in life insurance, general insurance, pensions and investments, and it has operations around the world, looking after funds totalling the almost sci-fi amount of £371 billion. It may be a huge company today, but Legal & General had an auspicious start. Much like the London Stock Exchange Group and The Royal Hospital, it was founded in 1836, in a coffee house, the preferred choice of meeting place for men of business in Victorian times it seems. The founder, Sergeant John Adams and five lawyers would meet in Chancery Lane under the name the New Law Life Assurance Society, and was first only open to those in the legal profession. As Legal & General grew, it became pen to the public and eventually the public also had the option of buying shares in the company.
Gradually mergers and acquisitions around the globe helped Legal & General to grow into the powerhouse it is today, but it remains true to its London roots, because if you look at the company's social and athletic logo, you will see an image of Temple Bar, a London landmark close to the coffee shop where the company was born. Their official company logo is an umbrella, which could easily represent both financial security and the typically rainy weather of London.
Alongside insurance, investments and pensions, the company also offers a wide range of products, such as brokerage and a direct sales service, and Legal & General also run one of the largest estate agent franchises in the UK called Xperience, although these operations are kept separate from their financial business.
Legal & General's building may be of some architectural note, but unless you have business there, there isn't much to see, although the surrounding area of Moorgate does have some very upmarket shops, cosy wine bars and restaurants to explore, and it is close to the Barbican Arts Centre and the art Mecca of London, Shoreditch; so if you are visiting on business or not, you will find something to see and do. If staying in the area there are plenty of hotels to suit your style and budget, such as Threadneedles, a grand establishment with exquisite furnishings and a high level of service. Andaz Liverpool Street also has very attentive service as the staff greet you with iPads and offer as much help as you require; the furnishings are also ultra-modern and colourful. Citadines Apart Hotel offers a range of affordable apartment units, for those who want somewhere a little more discrete and Malmaison is the original boutique hotel, with sophisticated design in each room and a trendy bar and brasserie.
