The London Guards hotel is located on Lancaster Gate; only a few minutes walk from the tube station of the same name in London's W2 district, north of Hyde Park. The area is very convenient for exploring London, as it enjoys excellent transport links via the London Underground and it is within walking distance of many inspiring local attractions, including the majestic and picturesque Hyde Park.
Here you can enjoy outdoor activities such as horse riding and tennis, or take shelter from the rain in The Serpentine Gallery, where you can view cutting edge modern art. Lancaster Gate was named after the entrance into Hyde Park, and The London Guards hotel is literally opposite it, just on the other side of the Bayswater Road, which itself leads to Marble Arch (also one tube stop away), Park Lane and Oxford Street, only a 15-20 minute walk away, where you can visit some of London's most exclusive shops, or meander through Oxford Street's mile and a half of shops, including the UK's second-largest store, Selfridges. The splendour of Kensington Palace and Gardens can also be enjoyed by all of Hyde Park's visitors, and many scenic walks await you.
The hotel is easily accessible from Paddington Station where the London Heathrow Express arrives every 15 minutes. You can also access Victoria Station for the Gatwick Express Train and King's Cross St Pancras for the Eurostar Terminal. Both Queensway and Bayswater Underground stations are also a five-minute walk away. If you are driving to the hotel, it can be accessed from the main A4 road, via the M4 and M25; however, guests should note that the hotel is in the congestion charge zone. A reasonable car park choice is the NCP just a few minutes walk away in Queensway.
The London Guards hotel has a great deal of charm for a low-cost, tourist class hotel, but there are some areas for improvement, the hotel breakfast is quite unimaginative, so you may prefer to visit the Starbucks Cafe or Patisserie Valerie nearby for something a little tastier.
The decor could also do with some sprucing, but considering how central the location is and the fantastic links to major transport hubs, this is a reliable and friendly place to explore this picturesque area of London from.
Our tip: if the price is not too high then book it but do not expect too much as its getting overdue for a refurbishment. The big bonus is the location and the fact there is little traffic noise.
