The name The Mad Hatter is a tribute to London's heritage for hat making, as the building was originally a gentleman’s hat factory where the famous bowler, topper and boater hats were once produced. In days gone by, no London City gentleman would have been seen out and about without his hat!
The hotel has 30 well-appointed rooms that provide superb value accommodation in the Southwark area of South London, while the pub downstairs serves delicious fresh food and great ales. You can choose between well-appointed double or twin rooms, or treat yourself to some king size luxury in the form of the hotel’s superior rooms. Each of the guest rooms has its own stylish en-suite bathroom with a tub and a shower - ideal for relaxing after a day of City business or sightseeing.
The various types of room at the Mad Hatter include 12 double rooms with a sumptuous double bed, a desk and a trouser press as well as a flat screen TV with Sky and a radio. Superior rooms have a wonderful king size bed, TV with digital channels as well as Sky, a desk with a phone, tea and coffee-making equipment and a trouser press. There are also twin rooms with two beds.
Facilities available include 24-hour room service, Wi-Fi internet access and an ice machine. Irons are available if required. Cots for babies can be requested and there are interconnecting rooms, which are ideal for families. Assistance and guide dogs are welcome too.

The hotel’s tempting menu includes a great selection of traditional English dishes, with light bites as well as hearty suppers on offer. Pies are a speciality and are perfect washed down with a choice of cask and bottle-conditioned ales. The menu also includes fish and chips, burgers, bangers and mash and light bites including sandwiches. Real ales on tap include London Pride and ESB. The pub also serves great wines, cocktails and soft drinks.

The Mad Hatter is in a part of London that is full of tourist attractions, many of which are within walking distance, including the BFI Imax cinema, the Hayward Gallery, the Royal Festival Hall, the London Eye, the London Film Museum, the London Sea Life Aquarium, the Florence Nightingale Museum, Lambeth Palace Gardens, the Imperial War Museum and the Tate Modern. Just over the River Thames via Blackfriars Bridge is the Victoria Embankment, the historic Temple district and St Paul’s Cathedral. It is easy to get into the West End and Central London by tube or bus for further sightseeing, shopping and nightlife. There are plenty of local shops and cafes nearby.

Waterloo Station is both a mainline railway station and serves the following Underground Lines: Bakerloo, Northern, Jubilee, Waterloo & City. It connects with Waterloo East mainline railway station. Blackfriars is also both an mainline and tube station, and is on the District and Circle Lines. London Bridge station is a mainline station and also on the Northern and Jubilee Lines. Southwark Underground station is a short walk from the hotel and serves the Jubilee Line. The area is inside the London Congestion Charge Zone for cars and there is a charged car park within walking distance. Several bus routes stop nearby.
