Marylebone tube station is in Zone 1 on the Bakerloo line. The station is situated on Melcombe Place close to Marylebone Road and Gloucester Place, in the northern part of central London. Regents Park is also close by.
The tube station is situated inside the mainline Marylebone train station which provides overground trains to destinations in the midlands such as High Wycombe, Stratford On Avon and Leamington Spa in addition to Shropshire on the Welsh border and Wrexham in North Wales. The train station has appeared in a number of films including The Ipcress File and A Hard Days Night starring The Beatles.
A short walk along the opposite side of Marylebone Road leads to Marylebone High Street, also known as Marylebone Village. The locality offers some interesting shopping, particularly in the area of food. A farmers market is held every Sunday on Cramer Street car park where over 30 stalls sell their own produce ranging from fish, meat and poultry to fruit, vegetables, bread, cheese, soup and fruit juice, all grown, farmed or produced by the stallholders, with the emphasis on high quality organic produce.
Marylebone is upmarket without the glitz associated with some of the more ritzy neighbourhoods closer to central London and it has an eclectic and relaxed mix of shopping establishments, some of which are believed to be visited by stars such as Madonna and Kate Winslet.
Marylebone lives up to its reputation as a foodies paradise with a good selection of cafes and restaurants including Le Pain Quotidien (French bakery and cafe, 72-75 Marylebone High Street), Fishworks, which is both a fishmongers and fish restaurant (89 Marylebone High Street), The Natural Kitchen (Modern British, 77-78 Marylebone High Street), Langan's Bistro (Anglo/French, 26 Devonshire Street) and Getti (Italian, 42 Marylebone High Street).
Shopping in a culinary vein continues with Divertimenti which besides selling high end kitchen utensils also has a cookery school plus gastronomic demonstrations by visiting chefs (33-34 Marylebone High Street). La Cucina Caldesi is central Londonís only Italian cookery school (118 Marylebone Lane). La Fromagerie is a specialist cheese shop (2-4 Moxon Street), whilst Biggles Gourmet Sausages needs no explanation, supplying some of Britains best chefs (66 Marylebone Lane).
Skandium sells modern Swedish furniture and accessories for the home (85-86 Marylebone High Street) while Daunt Books specialises in travel books (83 Marylebone High Street).
