Melbourne House Hotel

Situated along Belgrave Road, a very elegant part of London in one of the Victorian town houses lining the street, you will find the Melbourne House Hotel, a popular, family run institution which has been recommended by 'Let's Go! Frommers Guide' and has been praised by previous guests. The hotel is close to both Victoria and Pimlico train and tube stations, a fabulous location from which you can walk to many of London's most famous attractions.

The hotel's 17 rooms have been refurbished in recent years and are decorated in a tasteful style, with comfortable furnishings and high-quality fittings. Rooms range from Single to Quad size, so business, leisure and family visitors are all well-accommodated, and they are exceptionally clean, something which the hotel prides itself on. All rooms include a flat-screen TV with 70 TV channels and a selection of movies, power showers, fresh towels and linens a phone and thoughtful touches, such as art prints on the walls. Free Wi-Fi is also available throughout the hotel and breakfast is included in the room rate, which guests have been very satisfied with.

The hotel doesn't provide evening meals, but Victoria is near to some very delectable eateries, which will suit all tastes and budgets. Kazan, The Vincent Rooms and About Thyme all offer food with an international flavour; chain restaurants such as Ask! Pasta and Pizza Express are a reliable, cheap option; and if you fancy something a little more traditional, Grumbles is a reasonable British restaurant, which is very popular with locals.

Victoria is perhaps one of the best places to stay in the city, with everything you could want to see on your doorstep and some surprises you may not have discovered yet. From the elegant mansions of Belgravia, where you will find some exquisite patisseries, wine shops and cafes; to the huge theatres encircling Victoria Station, the Apollo Victoria home to popular musicals such as Starlight Express and more recently Wicked, and The Victoria Palace, where you can see feel good musicals such as Grease and Billy Elliot. For those who want to see the most recognisable London landmarks in real life, you can easily walk to Buckingham Palace, where you can see the Changing of the Guard ceremony every day; The Houses of Parliament, where you can tour the rooms where governmental decisions are made; Westminster Abbey, with its eclectic architecture from all eras of history; and the Big Ben clock tower. Culture vultures can go from Old Masters to surrealism in a twenty-minute walk with Tate Britain and the Tate Modern both nearby. If you are travelling with a family you can walk to the London Eye for panoramic views of London.

If you stay in Victoria, you will have the whole city at your command, with dozens of bus routes terminating at the station and the Victoria, District and Circle tube lines, which will take you to many other parts of London. Victoria Station also has overground services to the rest of the UK, coach services to the UK and Europe and the Gatwick Express Train service, which can get you to the airport in 30 minutes.

With so much near by and such superb transport links, you will have a convenient and action-packed trip to London if you choose to stay in Victoria. Melbourne House Hotel is a good option for the area, where you will be well looked after. All rooms see to be fine as the hotel is in a fairly peaceful and safe location, however some guests have said that rooms at the back are quieter and a better option for lighter sleepers.
