The Mowbray Court Hotel offers low cost accommodation in the Earls Court district of London. Situated on Penywern Road, a peaceful side street, in an attractive 19th century town house, the hotel enjoys a very convenient location for seeing the sights of Kensington and of course, visiting the Earls Court Exhibition Centre, which is located just a few minutes walk away. Olympia Exhibition Centre is just one stop away from the hotel by tube, so the location is ideal for anyone exhibiting at or visiting a concert, fair or trade show there.
The hotel caters for business, leisure and family visitors, with room sizes ranging from Singles to Triples. The guest rooms have slightly eclectic decor, with the odd piece of vintage-style furniture thrown in, the rooms are admittedly basic, but serviceable for a short stay, with a good range of amenities for a budget hotel, including a hairdryer, trouser press, room safes, a digital television, direct-dial phone and radio; all the basics you will need for your trip and more. If you don't mind sharing bathroom facilities, you can get a single room for less.
Staff at the hotel are reportedly very friendly and multi-lingual, so you will be made to feel welcome. Wi-Fi and a simple breakfast are both available at the hotel, but at an extra charge, so you may prefer to head to the nearby Starbucks for a free connection and tasty breakfast panini. The hotel doesn't cater for evening meals, but the local area has plenty of fantastic restaurants for all budgets. From the M&S Simply Food Store at Earls Court station, to chain restaurants such as Wagamamas and Pizza Express, to more exotic eateries such as Mohsen, which has an authentic menu of Iranian food.
The hotel's location means that you are just a 15-minute walk away from South Kensington and Knightsbridge. South Kensington is home to some of London's best sights, with the Victoria & Albert, Science and Natural History museums all located along Exhibition Road, alongside the sprawling Imperial College London campus. The elegant domed building of the Royal Albert Hall is located nearby, just below Hyde Park, London's largest Royal Park, where you can enjoy boating on the Serpentine Lake, tennis, horse riding, open-air concerts and the modern art collection of The Serpentine Gallery.
Knightsbridge is home to Harrods Department Store, where you can pick up almost anything, from gold plated prams to pets, and Harvey Nichols, which provides a lower key shopping experience. Just ten minutes from the hotel you will find Kensington High Street, which has a fantastic selection of bars, restaurants, shops and sights, from the pet flamingoes and oak trees of the Rooftop Gardens bar, to Urban Golf, played on indoor greens, you will find something unique here. The street culminates in Kensington Palace and Gardens, the former home of Princess Diana and Queen Victoria, this stunning, Christopher Wren designed building is well worth a tour.
Transport links from the Mowbray Court Hotel are also good, with Gloucester Road tube station just a few minutes walk away, from which you can travel on the District, Circle and Piccadilly lines. The District line will take you to Paddington Station for the Heathrow Express train, or you can access Heathrow directly via the Piccadilly line. You also have a direct link to King's Cross St Pancras Station where the Eurostar terminus is located and Victoria Station, where you can catch the Gatwick Express Train. If you are driving to the hotel, it can be accessed from the main A4 road, via the M4 and M25; however, guests should note that the hotel is in the congestion charge zone. A reasonable car park choice is the NCP just a few minutes walk away in Warwick Road.
The hotel may be in need of some refurbishment, as there is some wear and tear in rooms, but the Mowbray Court Hotel is a very reasonable option for such a convenient location. Try to get a room facing the street, as it is quiet at night and provides a view of the local area.
