Search for cheap hotels near O2 London
Squatting on the horizon in Greenwich, jutting out into the river, the O2 is one of the largest indoor arenas in Europe. It houses spectacular concerts, shows, and even sporting events. Since 2008 it has been the worlds busiest music arena, and the enormous shows it puts on always draw incredible crowds.
Originally constructed as the Millennium Dome, a monument to human ingenuity and development house inside the largest freestanding dome in the world, when the Millennium Experience moved out of the building at the end of 2000 it required a new purpose. It has certainly found that as the O2 Arena, as it swiftly became one of the countrys most spectacular venues. It is the third most popular venue for concerts and family shows in the entire world, just behind Madison Square gardens and the Manchester Evening News Arena.
The ground surface can be changed between being an ice-rink, a stage, a basketball court, an exhibition area, a conference venue, private hire venue, and concert hall. Specialising in events that are large in scale, the O2 is always worth checking out on a visit to London, as you may see something the like of which you will not get the chance to see again.
Travel to the O2
Getting to the O2 is easy, and because the station is new, it is fully accessible for people with wheelchairs. North Greenwich station was built specifically for the O2 (or Millennium Dome as it was then), and it is on the DLR and Jubilee Line. There are eight bus routed to the O2, three of which run 24-hour services, so you can get into and out of the centre of London from the O2 at any time of day or night.
If you fancy a less common way of getting to the arena, you can always take a Thames Clipper river boat to get there. The ferry leaves from the London Eye. The 30 minute journey passes all the sights of London and is a great way to experience the River Thames. Tickets must be pre booked from Thames Clippers.
There are also 2,200 parking spaces for visitors if you wish to drive.
There are a number of different areas within the O2 complex, including The O2 Bubble, which houses permanent exhibitions on British Music, and the Titanic. There are also other, smaller venues not in the arena, where there may be other attractions, such as London Piazza, the Live Quarter, IndigO2, Peninsula Square, Meridian Gardens, and Proud2. These contains many different events and experiences, and to check the latest listings you should visit the O2s website. Events might include films on the big screen, animatronic dinosaurs, and live music.
From humble beginnings, the O2 quickly established itself as one of the best places in the country to go to to see live music events, and gigantic, spectacular shows. There are restaurants, a superclub, a cinema, and many special events planned for the O2. If you are coming to London and want to see a show the like of which cannot be found in many other places, then the O2 should be your first port of call. Packed to the gills with different, events the O2 should have something for everyone.
