If you’re a music fan, you’ll be staying in an ideal place to take in some top gigs. The Plaza is a five-minute walk along Shepherd’s Bush Road from the Shepherd’s Bush Empire, a renowned music venue that hosts gigs by a variety of international acts. In the other direction along Shepherd’s Bush Road towards Hammersmith is another popular London concert venue, the Hammersmith Apollo. It’s a 15-minute walk from the hotel.
The Plaza is well-placed for tourists who want to visit some of the capital city’s best known attractions. For example, you can reach the Westminster London Underground Station from Goldhawk Road Station, an easy walk from the hotel, in about 30 minutes. Westminster Station is next to the Houses of Parliament with their iconic tower housing Big Ben, and just over the River Thames is the London Eye. Take a trip on the Eye for fabulous views across London.
Westminster is also the place to take a pleasure boat along the Thames. You can catch a boat going downstream to Greenwich, a riverside town steeped in the history of the British Navy. Greenwich is also home to the world-famous Observatory and to the Greenwich Mean Time meridian line – literally a line in the ground.
Alternatively, you can take a boat upstream to Kew Gardens, one of the world’s top botanical gardens. Attractions there include a treetop walkway, the huge, glass Tropical House and a model badger sett large enough for children to enter and play in.
If you’ve come to London to do some shopping, you’re in luck because the Plaza is a five-minute walk from the Westfield shopping centre. There you’ll find a huge choice of shops selling everything from fashion to furnishings and an eclectic selection of restaurants, plus a multiplex cinema. Westfield is also home to The Village, a luxury shopping experience where you’ll find top international names such as Burberry, Kurt Geiger and Louis Vuitton.
Shepherd’s Bush has an excellent range of dining options within a 15-minute walk of the Plaza. The eccentrically named Blah Blah Blah on Goldhawk Road offers vegetarian cuisine from North Africa, the Mediterranean, Asia and Europe in a relaxed ambience. Il Gustoso on Blythe Road offers traditional Italian food, while Los Molinos on Shepherd’s Bush Road serves Spanish cuisine.
The Plaza’s ensuite guestrooms all have basic furnishings and come with free wifi and TV. Other amenities include tea and coffee making facilities and fridges. Goldhawk Road Station, about five minutes from the hotel on foot, is on the Circle and the Hammersmith and City lines. From there you can travel in 20 minutes to Baker Street, where Sherlock Holmes lived in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories. You can also reach Tower Hill Station, adjacent to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, in 40 minutes. Goldhawk Road is also one stop from Hammersmith where you can change to the Piccadilly Line for a direct connection to Heathrow Airport, a journey of around 50 to 55 minutes.
