The Hotel Russell is situated in the picturesque and elegant Bloomsbury district of London, renowned for its literary connotations, as it was here that the famed Bloomsbury Group, which included Virginia Woolf, lived and worked. EM Forster also wrote A Room With a View here and Reverend Charles Kingley wrote children's classic The Water Babies. It is easy to see the appeal of the area for London's literati, with attractive 19th century buildings and landscaped garden squares; the area retains the refined air of old-world London. Regent's Park and London Zoo lies just a 15 minute walk to the west of the hotel and the shops of Oxford Street and theatres of Covent Garden are just 15-20 minutes walk away to the south of the hotel; whilst, to the north you will find the many live music venues and colourful market of Camden Town.
The hotel is also in an excellent location for transport, with Russell Square tube station on the doorstep, from which you can travel to Heathrow directly via the Piccadilly line and King's Cross St Pancras Station, where the Eurostar terminus is located. Euston Station is also juts a ten-minute walk away, where you can catch over ground trains to many other areas of the UK and the Northern Line to Waterloo Station.
The Hotel Russell is a very refined place to stay in a convenient area of London, with many major sights within walking distance, making this a good choice for a London stay. However, some guests have reported maintenance issues in rooms and lackadaisical service at times, and the hotel is pricier than some hotels in Bloomsbury, an area where low-cost hotels can be of a high quality, so it may be worth shopping around before you book. If you do choose to stay in Hotel Russell, rooms overlooking Russell Square are recommended, as these tend to be quieter and provide charming views of the area.
