Search for cheapest prices: Skylark Bed and Breakfast
The Skylark Bed and Breakfast is set in a residential area in the London Borough of Hounslow, about 10 miles west of the capital’s centre and four miles east of Heathrow Airport. This budget hotel occupies a two-storey, early-20th century townhouse with red-tiled roof and whitewashed walls. This hotel offers budget accommodation and despite its distance from London’s centre, you can be in the heart of the capital in as little as 35 minutes thanks to a London Underground station, Hounslow West, which is just 400 metres from the hotel. This station also offers easy access to Heathrow Airport, making the Skylark an ideal place to stay if you have a morning flight to catch.
There are some good dining options near the Skylark. Turn left out of the hotel entrance and walk along Bath Road for about two minutes and you’ll come to Mantra which offers contemporary Indian dining. The restaurant features designer interiors and the menu includes specialities like Murgh Makani, chicken cooked in a creamy tomato sauce with fenugreek leaves, Rahra Gosht, lamb prepared with spices and red onions, and Khumb Hara Dhaniya, Portobello and button mushrooms with ginger and spices.
Take a right turn out of the hotel and you’ll come to a clutch of Indian restaurants about five minutes along Bath Road. These include Karahi Palace, Punjabi Spice and Khan Chachas, all reasonably priced and certainly worth a try.
Completely non-smoking, this hotel has a 24-hour reception and there’s wireless internet throughout the property. There’s free car parking onsite and a lock-up for bicycles and baggage storage are both available. The hotel has a lounge with glass doors leading out to the garden which features an ornamental pond. Room rates include breakfast which is served every morning from 7 to 9 am in the conservatory, overlooking the garden.
The 22 ensuite guestrooms are all equipped with flatscreen TVs, hairdryers, alarm clocks and direct dial phones. Other amenities include desks with lamps, irons and ironing boards, and tea and coffee making facilities. Single, twin, double and triple rooms are available as well as family rooms which can accommodate up to four. Children are welcome and cots and highchairs are available.
Suburban Hounslow is short of green spaces, but the charming Beaversfield Park on Rosemary Avenue is less than a 10-minute walk from the Skylark. The park has rolling grassland, a maze and a cricket pitch where you watch this quintessentially English game at the weekends. There’s also a multisports area, plus two children’s play areas.
London Underground’s Hounslow West Station on the Piccadilly Line is a five-minute walk from the hotel. From there, you can take a train to South Kensington, a journey time of about 35 minutes. This station is within easy walking distance of three of London’s top tourist attractions, the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Entrance to all three institutions is free. Children in particular will enjoy the Natural History Museum with its animatronic dinosaur exhibition.
Stay on the train for six more stops (about 10 minutes) instead of getting off at South Kensington and you’ll come to Covent Garden. This central London spot has an excellent selection of shops, restaurants and bars and there’s daily street entertainment, often of a very high quality, in Covent Garden’s central plaza in front of the splendid Greek-revival St Paul’s Church. Covent Garden is also home to the Royal Opera House and the London Transport Museum.
Getting to Heathrow Airport from the Skylark is a breeze. Walk the five minutes to Hounslow West and catch a westbound train. This will get you to Heathrow terminal four in seven minutes and terminals one, two and three in eight minutes.
