The So Paddington Hotel is just 200 metres from Paddington Tube Station and a 5-minute walk from Hyde Park. It has a 24-hour reception and offers guests well-appointed comfortable rooms in a tasteful modern style. Situated in the heart of Paddington, you can enjoy the tranquil surrounds of leafy square gardens and streets lined with Victorian town houses, or immerse yourself in the exciting cosmopolitan side of London with the local restaurants, bars and theatres. Whether you are travelling on leisure or business, solo or as a family, SO Paddington will be able to accommodate your needs and place you near to some exciting activities for all to enjoy.
The hotel's modern rooms are decorated to ensure guests will be comfortable, with cosy fabrics, a muted colour palette and the odd flourish of design in elegant throw pillows, floral arrangements, towels folded into animal shapes and antique style dressers. In-room amenities include a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities, Wi-fi capabilities, DVD players, hairdryers and more. Ensuite bathrooms also contain baths and showers. To see that you have a good start to your day of sight seeing, or a day of conducting business in the City, traditional and continental breakfasts are served in the hotel's airy dining room. Light snacks and tea and coffee are also available throughout the day. For something a little more substantial, it is highly recommended to explore the fantastic range of unique restaurants and cafes in the local area, from artisan pastries at Patisserie Valerie, to British fine dining at The Frontline Club, to more exotic fare at Satay House and Maroush Gardens, you will find something to tempt your taste buds.
The hotel also enjoys an excellent location for sight seeing and exploring this sprawling and exciting city. Oxford Street, which contains over a mile and a half of shops, including Selfridges Department Store, is less than a 10-minute walk away. The West End is five minutes’ away by tube and offers excellent restaurants and world-famous theatres including The Gielgud and The National, as well as a wide range of shops and bars. Hyde Park is just a short walk south of the hotel, the largest green space in London, where you can ride horses and a solar-powered shuttle boat over the Serpentine Lake when the weather is sunny, or explore the fantastic modern art collection at The Serpentine Gallery, or stroll through gorgeous Kensington Gardens to tour Kensington Palace if the weather is not so good. If you are visiting with kids, Madame Tussaud's waxwork museum, The Planetarium, The Sherlock Holmes Museum and London Zoo are all within 30 minutes walk (or a short tube ride) from the hotel, so your visit will be as inspiring as it is action packed.
The hotel is easily accessible from Paddington Station where the London Heathrow Express arrives every 15 minutes. You can also access Victoria Station for the Gatwick Express Train and King's Cross St Pancras for the Eurostar Terminal. Queensway and Bayswater Underground stations are also both a five-minute walk away. If you are driving to the hotel, it can be accessed from the main A4 road, via the M4 and M25; however, guests should note that the hotel is in the congestion charge zone. A reasonable car park choice is the NCP just a few minutes walk away in Queensway.
SO Paddington offers very reasonable rates for its very fortuitous location, so even if you have a budget to stick to, you can stay somewhere cosy with some character in the centre of the city. However, some rooms could do with modernisation and guests staying here should be aware that rooms can be cramped and basic, so it may be one to avoid if this is visit marking a special occasion. Breakfast at the hotel is also a little uninspired, so a visit to the Starbucks in Queensway might be your best bet.
