St Joseph Hotel, previously known as the St George Hotel, is situated along Longridge Road in the Earls Court district of London; a peaceful residential area, with white Victorian town houses lining the streets and leafy garden squares nearby. The hotel offers great transport links and a very convenient location for Earls Court and Olympia exhibition centres, two of the largest in London, where you can see concerts, exhibitions and trade shows such as the London International Horse Show, Musicmania and The Royal Tournament. The hotel is perfect for anyone visiting or exhibiting there, or for those who want to see the delights of South Kensington and Knightsbridge without paying high accommodation prices.
Rooms at the St Joseph Hotel range from Single to Family size, catering for all kinds of guests. Rooms are comfortable and cosy and whilst the decor is perhaps a little outdated, it’s more than sufficient for a few nights at such a decent price. All rooms come complete with a colour TV with remote, en-suite bathrooms, 240v sockets, an in-room safe and a Wi-Fi connection at a charge. There is a Starbucks cafe nearby where you can get a free connection and pick up some breakfast, as the one at the hotel is a little unimaginative. The hotel reception desk is open 24 hours and staff are multilingual and reportedly very friendly, however there are a few surprising surcharges. To store your luggage in the luggage room you will have to pay a fee and you need to leave a deposit for the remote control, which some guests have been put off by.
The hotel doesn't cater for evening meals, but never fear, you are in one of the restaurant capitals in the world. Just leaving your door you will find something tempting and nearby, such as Wagamamas, Zizzis or Mohsen for a range of international cuisines.
The hotel is also in a great location for exploring nearby sights. In South Kensington, just a 20 minute walk away, you will find the Victoria & Albert, Science and Natural History museums; the Royal Albert Hall; Hyde Park and Harrods and Harvey Nichols department stores, for those who want to splash some serious cash. To the west of Hyde Park you will find Kensington palace and Gardens, where you can tour the historic building, which still houses members of the royal family and enjoy an afternoon tea in The Orangery cafe. Kensington High Street has a fantastic range of designer and high street shops and quirky attractions such as Linley Sambourne's house, which is decorated as it was in Victorian times and Leighton House museum, home of artist Lord Leighton, which has some stunning displays of his art and collections.
Transport links from the St Joseph Hotel are also good, with Earls Court tube station just a few minutes walk away, from which you can travel on the District and Piccadilly lines. The District line will take you to Paddington Station for the Heathrow Express train, or you can access Heathrow directly via the Piccadilly line. You also have a direct link to King's Cross St Pancras Station where the Eurostar terminus is located and Victoria Station, where you can catch the Gatwick Express Train.
The St Joseph Hotel is very much 'you get what you ay for', but for such an excellent location, you may be willing to lower your expectations a little Staff are friendly and helpful, but watch out for any additional charges. Some rooms in the hotel have a patio entrance, which is quieter than the road and leads into an outside area, so it is great for the summer months; however, top floor rooms offer better views of the area.
