The Thistle Hyde Park hotel is located on Lancaster Gate, which is immediately north of Hyde Park, enjoying fabulous views of London's largest royal park and its environs. The hotel itself dates back to Victorian times and maintains the atmosphere of a turn of the century members club, with elegant interiors and comfortable furnishings.
The hotel's 54 guest rooms are available as Standard, Deluxe or Suite and all are decorated in a refined style with traditional fixtures such as Art Deco lamps or damask curtains, with a relaxing colour palette in lemons and blues. All rooms have recently been refurbished and offer extensive in-room amenities including an AM/FM alarm clock, mini bar, safe deposit box, television with cable, direct dial telephone, ironing facilities, a hairdryer, bathrobes, complimentary toiletries and a private bathroom, to ensure the utmost comfort.
The staff at the hotel are very hands on and concerned with guests' needs, with reports of the friendly manager even portering some guests' bags personally. Reception staff are also well informed and happy to give guests recommendations for activities. A Wi-fi connection is available throughout the hotel, but at a charge, so if you don't want to pay for this service, there is a Starbucks cafe offering free Wi-fi just a few minutes’ walks away. The hotel also offers 24-hour room service.
The hotel houses Whites Restaurant, a Georgian style dining room, where you can enjoy modern British and European cuisine with an extensive wine list. The Lounge Bar is also a cosy, informal setting to relax with a drink before exploring the local nightlife.
The hotel is very well located for seeing London's sights and attractions. To the south, just across the park, is Kensington Palace and Gardens, where Queen Victoria and Princess Diana have previously resided, and the exclusive, up market bars, shops and restaurants of London's very affluent district. The Royal Albert Hall and London's museum district containing the Victoria & Albert Museum, The Science Museum and The Natural History Museum are all within walking distance, where you can see an inspiring musical performance or see collections of fascinating artifacts in their millions. To the east of the hotel (1000m) is Oxford Street, where there is a huge selection of shops to splash some cash in and to the north is Bayswater, where some of London's best mid-size galleries are located including Green Cardamom's Indian contemporary art and Lisson Gallery.
The hotel is a five-minute walk away from Bayswater tube station, which services the District and Circle lines. From here you have direct links to Paddington Station (where the Heathrow Express Train terminates), Victoria Station (where the Gatwick Express Train terminates) and many other areas of London, including Notting Hill, which is famed for its carnival. If you are driving to the hotel, it is situated near the main A4 road, which can be accessed via the M4 and M25; however, guests should note that the hotel is in the congestion charge zone. An NCP car park is located very nearby in Queensway for overnight parking.
As the hotel's name would suggest, requesting a room with a view across Hyde Park will greatly improve your stay as the park and surrounding area offer some of the most picturesque sights in London. However, most rooms in the hotel are large with high ceilings, so if you can't acquire an enviable view, you won't be disappointed.
