Search for cheap hotels near Tottenham Hotspur Football Club
If you're a fan of the 'Lilywhites', you'll already be familiar with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, the huge stadium in White Hart Lane, north London, where over 36,000 fans descend for a rowdy game of chanting, yelling and mass camaraderie as they support the boys in white shirts, which is where there curious nickname derives from. Whether you're still misty eyed over the team's 2009 top-flight victory against Wigan Athletic, when they won 9-1; or whether you're still weeping into your club shirt at the thought of their record defeat, when they lost to Köln 0-1 in 1995, the club will be an important part of your social calendar.
"The team has stayed true to their roots"
Until 1898, the club played their games in the less grand location of Tottenham Marshes, where they resembled amateur kick-abouts, rather than the professional, sponsored games they play today. After a brief stint at Northumberland Park, the club moved to their spiritual home, where they still play today. The site was originally a disused nursery behind a pub, and the landlord allowed the team to use it when he realised that he could vastly increase his revenue. Today, the stadium boasts state of the art Sony Jumbotron TV screens, floodlight pylons and covered terraces, but to show how the team has stayed true to their roots, the club mascot, a bronze cockerel sculpture made by a former player in 1910, still resides atop the stands.
"You can be entertained by legendary former players"
Aside from supporting your team during the game, you can also buy official merchandise at the Stadium and if you want to make your visit extra special, you can enjoy a four-course meal at the Bill Nicholson Suite, whilst you are entertained by legendary former players. The Stadium also offers a range of tours: the Classic Tour, Legend Tour, VIP Tour, Lunch Tour, Group Tour and Kids Tour, where you can visit the Director's Box, take photos of Tottenham Hotspur's FA Cup and League trophy and walk through the Players' tunnel to explore the club dressing room. It's a perfect day out for any fan and a great way to learn about the history of the club.
"Hotels cater to out of town fans"
When travelling to the Stadium, it's advised to book a coach in advance, as trains can get very congested during games. If you choose to travel by tube, you can catch the Victoria Line to Seven Sisters and then connect to White Hart Lane overground station, or you can travel to Tottenham Hale Station and connect to Northumberland Park overground station. There are hotels in the area catering to out of town fans, Lawrence Road Guest House is a warm and friendly bed and breakfast, close to Seven Sisters tube station and Roseberry Avenue Rooms to Let is a small, welcoming establishment just ten-minutes away from the club. Fans should note that these hotels could book up quickly during game season, so you may prefer to stay in Victoria and travel on the day. The Sidney Hotel is a charming and affordable 3-star hotel and the Park Plaza Hotel offers sophisticated design throughout and luxurious rooms.
