The Tower Arms dates back to 1701, and looks just as you would expect a traditional British Inn to look, with a red brick building, wooden beams lining the walls and roaring log fires. The hotel has 11 rooms, available in En-Suite Twin and Double, Standard Twin and Single rooms, for extremely affordable rates. Rooms are perhaps a little dated, but are clean and comfortable with an eclectic, shabby chic approach to decor. The manager and staff have been praised for their friendliness and helpfulness in organising large events and welcoming guests and guests can enjoy a hearty, cooked, full English breakfast in the pub dining area, inclusive in the room rate.
Having a hotel with a pub attached gives you the advantage of satisfying home-cooked food just a few steps from your bed. The Tower Arms serves traditional British favourites and a Sunday roast, so you can experience British cuisine in a typical setting. Of course, the pub also offers an extensive range of ales and drinks to enjoy, so you can socialise with locals in the evening.
The Weald Country Park offers idyllic country walks and a great picnicking ground in summer months and Brookweald and South Weald Cricket Club grounds are also located minutes from the Tower Arms, for those who want to watch a game of this quintessentially British sport.
Maylands golf course is a 5-minute drive away and Brentwood, just 10-minutes drive away, in Essex, has some unique attractions such as the Brentwood Ski Centre, Hopefield Animal Sanctuary and The Brentwood Museum, which give a glimpse into the area's past.
Those who want something a little more out of the ordinary will enjoy The Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker, where you can explore this enormous underground sanctuary.
The Tower Arms is close to the M25 and you can drive into central London via the A12 road in about 20 minutes. Brentwood overground station is also located just a 5-minute drive from the hotel, where you can catch a train to Liverpool Street Station in about 20 minutes, for connections throughout London.
The Tower Arms does have very reasonable room rates, but it is preferable for business visitors as the sights of central London are located far away and are difficult to reach unless you have a car, and the local area offers few attractions in comparison, unless you are looking to have a break in suburban countryside.
