This classic bed and breakfast hotel is on the corner of Kensington Gardens, which leads into Hyde Park. In summer, this large green space is a lovely place for a picnic. The park is also due to host the 2012 Olympics Triathlon and Open Water Swimming events.
You can take a lovely walk through Kensington Gardens to the Serpentine Gallery, Princess Diana Memorial, Hyde Park and Green Park to Buckingham Palace (2.5 miles from the hotel). Kensington Palace is 0.8 miles from the hotel.
Cosmopolitan Queensway, a road famous for quality restaurants offering cuisine from all over the world, is 0.2 miles from the hotel. Whiteleys shopping centre, on Queensway, has a bowling alley and a cinema as well as many well-known retailers.
Portobello Road, famous for the antiques trade, is 0.4 miles away and the Museum of Brands is 0.8 miles away. You can easily get to the West End, for theatres, sightseeing and nightlife, by tube or bus.
The building was constructed in 1892 by an antiques dealer. It was converted into a hotel in the 20th century and has recently been redecorated and invested in. The rooms at Westland Hotel are classified as standard, premier and deluxe, but the hotel is proud to claim that even the standard rooms are decorated and furnished to a high standard. Rooms are priced at a competitive rate and are suitable for business travellers, holidaymakers and as family accommodation. Single, double and twin rooms are available as well as some king-size beds. The hotel has conference rooms and meeting facilities.
The guest rooms have recently been redecorated. Facilities include en-suite bathrooms with hairdryer. They also have direct-dial telephone, remote control TV/radio, satellite channels, trouser press, iron and ironing board and tea/coffee-making equipment. Several rooms have turbo spa baths. There are safe deposit boxes available at reception and lifts for ease of access. The historic building does not have air conditioning, but fans are available in hot weather and there is central heating.
The restaurant offers continental and full English breakfasts and you can order breakfast brought to your room at a small charge. Staff can recommend excellent restaurants and cafes nearby for lunches and dinners.
For security, the bedrooms are fitted with peep-holes in the doors so that guests can see who is outside and the doors have double locks. Environmental policies mean that guests can choose if they want towels laundered on a daily basis or not. The hotel recycles about 70% of used paper, packaging, glass and plastic.
Westland Hotel is 0.2 miles from Queensway Underground station, on the Central Line, and just a tiny bit further from Notting Hill Gate Underground, on the Central, District and Circle Lines. The nearest mainline railway station is Paddington, 0.9 miles away. If you fly in to Heathrow Airport you can catch a fast train directly to Paddington station, which is also on the District, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Bakerloo Underground Lines. Trains from Wales and the west of England arrive at Paddington. These stations are in Travelcard Zone 1. The airports at Gatwick, Luton, Stansted and London City are all less than 45 minutes from Central London tube stations by train. If you are travelling by car, Westland Hotel is easily accessible from the M40, and M4. The area is outside the London Congestion Charge Zone. The hotel is also on a main road so buses and taxis are virtually on the doorstep.
